Ever wanted to live-cast your Ubuntu desktop, slide show or even your webcam with some snazzy effects to UStream and similar live-broadcast sites? WebCamStudio for Linux makes it a snap.
The JAVA-based application allows you to create a 'virtual webcam' made up from several sources, including: -
- Webcams
- Desktop
- DV
- Images
- Free text
- IRC
- Animation
- Movies
- YouTube
- Widgets
The resulting output can then be used for live broadcasting over Bambuser, UStream, Stickam or similar services.
WebCamStudio also allows for live manipulation of some of these - type text on screen, apply wild effects and filters to your webcam and even distort sound! The resulting streams' resolution, frame-rate and quality are, like much of the application, all configurable.
Resources
As with any video application WebCamStudio requires some muscle in order to work with diligence; this application isn't best suited to a netbook, for example. It's also a Java application meaning you will need to have this installed prior-to launching the app or you'll just end up looking confused when nothing happens.
